Snowshoeing Landmannalaugar and volcanic eruption Fimmvorduhals Iceland 2010

March 2010, saturday morning. The first thing we heard after waking up in the early morning was "We are lucky! A volcanoe has just erupted, and we are going to witness it all!"

How right this message was. We didn't know much details yet, like which volcanoe it actually was, or where. On our way to Landmannalaugar we were slightly held up by roadblocks the police had just setup, to stop traffic going to that volcanoe, but we were allowed to pass.

During this snowshoe hike, taking 5 days for the hiking itself, we have had marvelous views on one of the most beautiful eruptions Iceland has seen in recent history. Perfectly safe to watch, after the trekking, we even got a much closer look and litterally touched the lavaflow. YES, one item less on my bucketlist!

The pictures of Snowshoeing Landmannalaugar and volcanic eruption Fimmvorduhals Iceland 2010 are all that remain.
